The Jacksonville area is served by Baptist Health, UF Health and Ascension St. Vincent’s. Whether your plan pays at any of them depends on the network attached to the specific plan you buy — not on the carrier’s name, and not on what the hospital told you last year.

Who actually files plans in Jacksonville

6 carriers filed marketplace plans across the 2 Jacksonville-area counties in the CMS Plan Year 2026 file: Ambetter Health, AvMed, Florida Blue (BlueCross BlueShield FL), Florida Blue HMO (a BlueCross BlueShield FL company), Molina Healthcare and Oscar Health Maintenance Organization of Florida. Lowest-cost Silver for a 40-year-old runs about $639 to $704 a month across the area before any premium tax credit.

PPO plans are sold in all 2 Jacksonville-area counties, which is genuinely useful here. A PPO is the plan type most likely to pay something toward a hospital outside its own network. It is not a blank cheque — out-of-network coinsurance is higher and balance billing is possible — but it means a wrong guess about your hospital is expensive rather than catastrophic.

Why the carrier name tells you almost nothing

The same insurer sells several plans in the same county, and they do not share a network. A carrier can have one plan that includes a hospital system and another that excludes it entirely. This is the single most common way people get this wrong: they check that “the carrier is accepted”, enrol, and discover in January that the specific plan they bought was not.

What you are checking is the plan network, named on the plan itself — something like a carrier’s “Select” or “Choice” network, not the carrier. Two questions get you there: does this exact plan include the hospital, and does it include the specific physicians you see there.

How to verify Baptist Health, UF Health and Ascension St. Vincent’s coverage properly

  1. Start from the plan, not the carrier. Get the full plan name and the network name from the marketplace listing.
  2. Check the carrier’s own directory for that network, filtered to the 2027 plan year rather than the current one.
  3. Phone the hospital’s billing department and read them the plan name. They will tell you whether they are contracted with that network. This is the step that actually settles it.
  4. Check the physicians separately. A hospital being in-network does not put every doctor practising there in-network — anaesthesia, radiology and pathology are frequently contracted separately.
  5. Write down the date and who told you. Contracts change mid-year.

What we can and cannot tell you here

What is knowable

The carrier and plan-type figures above come from the CMS landscape file and are checkable. Network participation is not in that file, is renegotiated during the year, and is not something this page will ever assert. Anyone publishing a fixed list of “insurance accepted at Baptist Health, UF Health and Ascension St. Vincent’s” is either copying a hospital’s marketing page or guessing, and either way it goes stale without warning. What I will do is check it for you against every plan filed in your county, and tell you the date I checked.

Covering a crew in Jacksonville, not just yourself

Everything above assumes one household. Covering employees multiplies it: your crew is spread across the 2 counties this metro covers, and a marketplace plan’s network is drawn county by county. The plan that works for your foreman may not even be sold in the county your apprentice lives in.

PPOs are sold across this area, which gives an out-of-network fallback — at higher cost sharing, and never as a substitute for checking the network you are actually buying.

Jacksonville also has more than one major system — Baptist Health, UF Health and Ascension St. Vincent’s. One group plan means one network, which means choosing whose doctors your whole crew keeps.

The three ways an employer here handles that

  • One group plan. You choose one network and everyone lives with it. That is fine where a crew is concentrated in one part of the Jacksonville area, and awkward where it is not.
  • Fund individual coverage instead. An ICHRA reimburses staff tax-free for coverage they choose. 6 carriers file here, so there is real choice to hand them rather than a single network to impose.
  • Offer nothing formal. Under 50 full-time equivalents you are not required to offer anything. Before you settle on that, find out what your people would qualify for on their own — it is often more than employers expect.

Whichever route you take, the check is the same one described above, and it is the one I do: plan by plan, against the hospital each person actually uses. Put a ZIP in below and tell me how many people you are covering.

“I run my own business and my time is valuable. Daniel handled everything — compared the private options, explained what I was actually getting, and had me covered fast. Way better experience than trying to navigate it myself.”
